Red Oak Taverns was formed in 2011 with a clear vision: to build a strong national pub company focused on community venues and long term tenant partnerships.

Co founded by Aaron Brown and Mark Grunnell, the business has grown steadily while maintaining a clear commitment to operational focus, property investment and professional governance. Both founders continue to provide the majority of the day to day executive management resource to the group, ensuring leadership remains directly involved in the performance and direction of the estate.

Today, Red Oak Taverns operates more than 240 pubs across the UK. Our estate stretches from Scotland to the South West of England and across the North East, North West, Midlands, Yorkshire, Wales and the South East. This broad geographical reach provides a diverse mix of trading environments while maintaining a strong emphasis on community pubs.

Red Oak Taverns is formed by Aaron Brown and Mark Grunnell with a focus on acquiring and supporting community based pubs.

2011 to 2015

The estate begins to expand, with a clear emphasis on sustainable growth and structured tenant partnerships.

2016 onwards

Continued investment in pubs and tenant partners strengthens the company’s position as a national operator with a local mindset.

Today

With more than 240 pubs nationwide, Red Oak Taverns remains focused on long term performance, property investment and strong operational support. Throughout this journey, our approach has remained consistent: disciplined growth, responsible management and active support for the people who run our pubs.

A Focused and Disciplined Approach

Our returns are delivered through focused investment in our pubs and in our Tenant Partners. We believe that sustainable performance comes from maintaining high standards across the estate, supporting our partners and ensuring each property is managed responsibly.

We adopt a 100 percent focus on every property within our estate. Each pub is assessed individually, with careful attention given to its condition, trading potential and role within its local community. We do not take a one size fits all approach. Instead, we recognise that every pub has its own challenges and opportunities.

Investment in Properties and People

Investment is central to our long term strategy. We invest in our pubs to maintain and improve standards where appropriate, ensuring they remain attractive and viable businesses. At the same time, we invest in our Tenant Partners through structured support and regular communication.

Our dedicated Business Development Managers work closely with tenant partners to review performance, discuss plans and identify opportunities. By combining property investment with commercial support, we aim to create stable and sustainable pub businesses across our estate.

Safeguarding the Future of Our Pubs

As a pub company, we will do all that we can to safeguard the future of each property as a pub. Community pubs play an important role in bringing people together and supporting local life. Wherever possible, we aim to maintain and protect that role.

However, we also recognise that changes in local demand can affect the viability of certain sites. In such circumstances, we will always explore the most suitable alternative for the community in question. Our approach is guided by responsibility, practicality and a long term perspective.
